Life sentence for man convicted in 2017 Tamaqua murder

Jurors in Schuylkill County have sentenced Robert B. Bailey to life in prison for the first-degree murder of his wife, Diane, in 2017.

Jurors deliberated just two hours before returning a first-degree murder verdict in the trial for Robert B. Bailey.

Bailey, 54, was convicted in the 2017 fatal stabbing of his wife Diane, 43, on Nov. 26, 2017, in front of their house on Lafayette Street in Tamaqua.

The trial began Monday and concluded Wednesday morning with Bailey taking the stand in his own defense. He told the court he just wanted to hug Diane, not stab her.

But soon after his arrest, Baily said to Tamaqua Police Chief Henry Woods, “I didn’t hesitate, I didn’t stop, I didn’t want to stop. I was relieved, I felt good, I’d do it again.”

He has asked for sentencing to be decided today.
