McAdoo Police Log

McAdoo police reported on the following arrests:

• Erick Cruz, 20, of Hazleton, was charged with a possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia stemming from an incident on May 5 during a traffic stop. Police talked to Cruz, the driver, and instantly detected the smell of marijuana and Cruz admitted he had marijuana with him. After a search police recovered two small plastic bags with marijuana, and Cruz was taken into custody. He was cited for having window tint and expired registration.

• John Avitto, 49, of Hazleton was charged with two counts of driving under the influence and a summary offense for driving with no license. The incident occurred on May 3 when police stopped Avitto for driving with an expired registration. Police noted that Avitto was overly fidgety and kept moving excessively. Police had Avitto step out of the vehicle and asked him to perform field sobriety tests, which indicated signs of impairment. He was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI, and later admitted to using methamphetamine.

Deborah Goetz, 60, of Hazleton, was a passenger in the vehicle. After a search, a single white pill, later identified as acetaminophen and hydrocodone bitartrate was found in Goetz’s wallet. She told troopers that she had a prescription but none was ever presented to police. Goetz was charged with a single count of possession of a controlled substance.

• Donovan Alford, 24, of Tamaqua, was charged with possession of marijuana and driving under the influence stemming from an incident that occurred on March 14. Police stopped Alford’s vehicle for speeding 47 mph in a 25 mph zone. Police detected the odor of marijuana upon approaching the vehicle. Alford admitted to having marijuana inside, and admitted to smoking some of it before driving. A search of the vehicle recovered a small bag of marijuana, a pipe and a grinder. A blood test revealed THC in his system.

• Police were dispatched to a residence on East Washington Street on May 19 for an intoxicated man causing a disturbance. Upon arrival, troopers spoke to a woman who said that Nelson Hernandez Colato, 24, of McAdoo, was drinking all day and became aggressive. She became upset when Colato allegedly grabbed her shoulder and scratched her arm, from her shoulder to her elbow. Troopers said Colato was visibly intoxicated. He was cited with harassment.
