Police: Man threatened to kill Palmerton business owner

A Palmerton man faces multiple charges after he threatened to kill the owner of a borough business.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by officer Shawn Leadbetter of the Palmerton Borough Police Department:

At 5:21 p.m. June 8, Leadbetter and officer Dane O’Brien were dispatched to Joey B’s on Delaware Avenue for a report of an assault in progress.

Witnesses saw the man run toward the back alley.

Leadbetter ran toward the alley while O’Brien went down Delaware Avenue toward Seventh Street in a vehicle.

Leadbetter saw the suspect, identified as Taaji Baldwin, 32.

He was taken into custody.

The owner of Joey B’s told police Baldwin confronted him on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant and said, “I’m going to kill you.”

Words were exchanged and Baldwin confronted the owner, coming at him. The owner then defended himself by pushing Baldwin away from him.

Baldwin faces charges of terroristic threats, flight to avoid apprehension, simple assault, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.

He is currently free in lieu of $5,000 straight bail, and is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing June 19 before District Judge William Kissner of Palmerton.
