A look back: June 15, 1964

The modern sewage disposal program of the three Panther Valley communities moved into the active stage with the announcement that bids for its construction will be advertised tomorrow.

Frank Jones, Coaldale, and Dominic DiMeco, Summit Hill, president and secretary, respectively, of the Coaldale-Lansford-Summit Hill Sewer Authority, confirmed the actual construction is expected to begin this summer.

The project is aided by a $722,700 federal grant the authority received through the assistance of Rep. Fred Rooney. Instead of depositing sewage in the Panther Creek, it will be replayed to a disposal plant to be built in the western extremity of Seek in Coaldale’s West Ward.
