Historical society

The Palmerton Historical Society will be presenting “History of Jim Thorpe’s Switchback.” The presenter will be Vince Hydro, author of “The Mauch Chunk Switchback.” The program will be at 7 p.m. June 10 in the Knight’s Gallery of the Palmerton Library, which is handicap accessible. This event is free and open to the public. For more information, call 610-824-6954.

Park concert

On Sunday, the Concert in the Palmerton Borough Park will be by the Perseverance Jazz Band. The concert is from 7-8:30 p.m. in the park bandstand. Bring a lawn chair. No smoking or vaping is allowed in the park.

This week’s concert is sponsored by the Carbon County Community Foundation. The Bandstand Committee reserves the right to cancel a concert in case of inclement weather. There are no rain dates.

Gaming Grotto

Gaming Grotto is open to the public and is hosted by Living Hope Lighthouse Church, 705 N. Third St., Palmerton. The event is held the first and third Friday of each month. For the month of June the dates are June 7 and 21 from 7 to 11 p.m. This is a free gaming lounge where people can build relationships through the gaming culture. Have game systems of all kinds and board games. Refreshments available for a small fee.

Community meal

A free community meal will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 891 Columbia Ave., Palmerton. The menu is sausage, oven-browned potatoes, baked beans and assorted desserts.

Come enjoy a free meal and fellowship.

Zinc City Motorcycle Club

The Zinc City Motorcycle Club, Route 209, Kresgeville, will hold Saturday Night Drags from 3-9 p.m. on June 8. Gates open at 2 p.m.

Holy Trinity news

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton will hold worship with Holy Communion at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday. This is a children’s special involvement in worship Sunday.

The annual picnic at Knoebel’s will be June 16. There are sign-up sheets for the bus, attendance and food. Please sign up and enjoy a fun day.

Support group

The monthly Grief and Loss and Support Group which meets at Jerusalem United Church of Christ, 545 Church Drive, Trachsville, will be held at 1 p.m. June 12. Directed by a professional counselor, this group is for people experiencing grief due to trauma, loss or death. It is an effort to assist people in the surrounding community to heal and find peace. All are welcome.

Free concert

St. John’s United Church of Christ, 891 Columbia Ave., Palmerton, is hosting a free concert by “Lost & Found.” This is a local country gospel quartet featuring Joe Solt, Dayle Smith, Lafayette Schoenberger and Rick Green. It will be held indoors in the fellowship hall from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday. A freewill offering will be taken. There will be free refreshments, including roller grilled hot dogs, snacks, desserts and beverages. Come join together for an evening of music and fun.

Family history

Do you know who your family is? There’s a chance to find out. Go the Palmerton Area Library from 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday to learn how to research your family history. This group is held the second Tuesday of each month.

Palmerton library

Fill out a paper slip for each book read and return the slip to the library. Each slip becomes a paper link in the community reading chain and a chance to win a prize at the end of the program. Open to all ages. You may sign up at the library any time during the program.

Peapods Story Time

Peapods Story Time will be held at the Palmerton Area Library, at 11 a.m. Tuesday for children age 0-2. Will include stories, finger plays and songs.

Jerusalem UCC

Jerusalem United Church of Christ, 545 Church Drive, Trachsville, will hold services at 9 and 10:30 a.m. on Sunday. Confirmation will be held during the 10:30 a.m. service.
