Lehighton stabbing was ‘targeted incident’ police say

A stabbing last weekend in Lehighton was a “targeted incident,” police said.

Detective Matt Arner of the Lehighton Borough Police Department said Friday the investigation is still open, pending two arrests from the incident.

Arner said police aren’t releasing the names of the victim, a man, or the two suspects, both men, at this time.

He said the names of the suspects weren’t being released due to both of them having felony warrants.

Arner said the victim — who was stabbed with a knife by one of the suspects — was released from the hospital the day after the incident.

Both suspects are from out of the area, he said.

“There’s no danger to the public,” Arner said. “This was a targeted incident.”

Arner said the incident occurred at 5:45 p.m. May 25 in an area adjacent to the D & L Trail pavilion in the northern parking lot of Sgt. Stanley Hoffman Boulevard.

“This has been someone known to the victim, and it included a robbery in which the victim resisted in giving an item,” he said. “We were able to develop suspects very quickly; however, we’re in the process of executing the arrest warrants.”

Arner stressed that there’s no danger to the public.

“This was not a random crime,” he said. “There are additional arrests that will be forthcoming.”
