Rush-Ryan Seniors

The Rush-Ryan-Delano Senior Citizens met May 14 at the Ryan Township Fire Company with 49 members in attendance. President Robert Neifert opened the meeting with the invocation “Springtime Melody.” Anthony Zahora was added to the sick list. Birthday wishes were extended to Nancy Godanis, Joe Stonge, Jayne McLaughlin and Lorraine Lupcho.

Activities for June: Shady Maple trip has been canceled; June 3, trip to Mohegan Sun Casino; June 11, trip to Hotel Anthracite. July 23, will be the annual summer picnic at St. Peter’s Grove, Locust Valley and catered by Hess of Schuylkill Haven.

The next meeting will be held on May 28.

Garden Club

The Lewistown Valley Garden Club held its April meeting on April 23.

The program was interesting, informative and entertaining. Raptors Up Close was presented by Rachel Spagnola, Hawk Mountain Sanctuary.

Spagnola introduced a screech owl and a red-tail hawk that had been injured and are now residents of the sanctuary.

There were numerous fresh arrangements submitted for judging, and the winners were: first place, Mary Bridgyham; second place, Evelyn Adams; third place, Karen Winkleman and Sharon Herring; and fourth place, Carol Kohn and Georgene Gallagher. Specimen winners were: first place, Carol Kohn; second place, Mary Bridgyham; third place, Sharon Herring; and fourth place, Karen Winkleman.

The next meeting will be held at 7 p.m. May 28 in the Zion Church Social Hall. The program will be Form Follows Function by Larry Moyer. Arrangements to be judged will be lily of the valley or any white flower in a green container. Specimen, peonies or bleeding heart.

First UMC Church

First United Methodist Church Tamaqua will be hosting a special musical program at 7 p.m. May 26.

Christian musician Chiz Rider will perform a selection of songs, including some patriotic numbers. Admission is free, but a free will offering will be received.

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m. Care & Connection, Christian Ed, Discipleship, Global Outreach and Kitchen and Social Commission meeting from 11:45 to 12:45 p.m. Activities for the next week include: Monday, Celebrate Recovery women’s step training 5-6 p.m.; Celebrate Recovery 6:30-9 p.m.; Wednesday, National Conference of EC Church, all day; TYM Remix meets at 6:30 p.m., GriefShare at 7 p.m., worship practice at 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, National Conference of EC Church — all day.
