Rush resident helped to catch a thief

Rush Township citizen Bill Boyer doesn’t miss a thing. So, when he saw township Police Chief Ken Zipovsky in foot pursuit of a man who’d been stealing things from Hometown Farmers Market vendors, he hopped into his car.

“There was snow on the ground, so the person was running on the roads,” Zipovsky recalled. “Next thing I know, Bill Boyer is pulling up next to me.”

Zipovsky got into Boyer’s car and the two caught up with the fleeing thief, who dodged down various side roads and then tried to elude capture by running through the snow in a yard. Zipovsky left the car and took off on foot again.

“And then I hear somebody coming along right behind me and it’s Bill Boyer,” Zipovsky said. “I had to tell him to get back in his car.”

The suspect, from Pottsville, was apprehended. The chase happened in March. During the Rush Township Supervisors’ meeting Thursday, Zipovsky presented Boyer with a plaque, thanking him for his assistance.
