A Nesquehoning man faces charges after he barricaded himself inside his girlfriend’s apartment with a gun and threatened to take his own life.

David Bruce Andrew III, 23, of East Catawissa Street, faces two counts of recklessly endangering another person and one count disorderly conduct following a standoff with Bloomsburg police on May 10.

According to the affidavit, at 1 a.m., Bloomsburg police were called to the Honeysuckle Apartments for a man with a gun threatening to harm himself.

When they arrived, officers spoke to Andrew’s girlfriend, who said Andrew was in her bedroom with the door locked. He was heavily intoxicated and had a gun. He has a concealed carry permit for the gun.

She also told police that everyone was out of the apartment except for one of her roommates, who was sleeping.

Police said the girlfriend said Andrew was distraught over their relationship and told her over the phone that he was going to “end it” and said that anyone who tried to come into the bedroom would be shot.

Police also interviewed another friend who was on the phone with Andrew trying to calm him down. Andrew fired one shot, which went through the wall and into the hallway.

After interviewing another roommate and escorting the sleeping roommate from the apartment, police contacted Andrew on the phone. During the conversation, Andrew shot his phone.

Police evacuated the buildings in the apartment complex and shut down the road in the area.

The Columbia County SWAT Team was called in and after several hours, negotiators were able to get Andrew to surrender without further incident.

He was arraigned before District Judge Russell Lawton and sent to Columbia County Jail after being unable to post $10,000 bail.
