2019 primary election: Stern seeks to continue to serve on Lehighton Area school board

Larry Stern is seeking re-election to the Lehighton Area School District Board of Directors. Stern has been a resident of the Lehighton community since his parents returned to the area in 1964. Stern’s family all graduated from Lehighton Area, parents in 1951 and 1955, he and his wife in 1981, as well as his children. Stern earned a bachelor’s degree from Lycoming College and is currently employed in the information technology industry with a focus in human resources management. While at Lehighton, he participated in many activities, both co-curricular and extracurricular.

Stern’s continued focus on the board is to maintain and expand programs, increase rigor while improving opportunities for our students, staff and community.

Stern firmly believes, “Our students are the product of our educational system and a goal of the board is to produce the best in the area. We desire to have those students want to return and raise families in our community.”

Stern is currently president of the board, having served as vice president previously and as well, served as Lehighton’s representative on the board of trustees of the Lehigh Carbon Community College for 10 years, ending in 2016. Stern also serves on the Lehighton Sewer Authority as treasurer. During his time on the board, the educational system at Lehighton has continued to improve while remaining fiscally responsible to the taxpayers. Our students now have the opportunity to achieve LCCC and LASD credits due to the partnership with Lehigh Carbon Community College, take advantage of a wider variety of AP courses taught by Lehighton school district staff, and have more support programs available for learners at all levels than ever before. His years of experience are a valuable asset to have in the complex decision making process of the educational system.

Stern will appear on both the Republican and Democratic ballots in the May primary and with your support will continue to move the Lehighton Area School District in a positive direction.
