Marian won a doubleheader against Mahanoy Area, and Panther Valley edged Shenandoah Valley Wednesday to force a tie at the top of the Schuylkill League Division 3 baseball standings.

The two teams will play a tiebreaker game Saturday afternoon in Tamaqua to determine the champion and who gets a berth in the league playoffs.

BASEBALL

Marian-Mahanoy Area

Marian swept a Schuylkill League doubleheader with Mahanoy Area, blanking the Bears by scores of 15-0 and 14-0.

Brandon Cann pitched a five-inning no-hitter in the second game after allowing just one hit in three frames in the opener. In the two wins, he recorded 12 strikeouts.

Cann also delivered at the plate, finishing with two hits and four RBIs in the first contest, and two hits and three RBIs in the second.

The Colts (15-5; 10-3) also received two hits, one a homer, and three RBIs from Hunter Fristick in the opener. Matt Doherty added two hits, two RBIs and three runs, while Dante Agosti finished with two hits and two runs. Alex Kubishin chipped in a hit, an RBI and two runs, while Mike Minchhoff and Chris Latoff each scoring a pair of runs.

In the second game, Kubishin ended with four hits, one a triple, a pair of runs and two RBIs. Aaron Mason contributed two hits, three runs and two RBIs, while Doherty had three hits, three runs and three RBIs. The winners also received two hits, an RBI and a run from Luke Walser, and a triple and two RBIs from Minchhoff.

Panther Valley held off Shenandoah Valley for a 7-6 Schuylkill League victory.

Wyatt Zimmerman had a hit and three RBIs for the Panthers (13-6; 10-3), while Chuck Byers had a hit and knocked in a run.

PV received a double and run from Mason Goida, with Josh Robin adding a hit and a run. Aaron Miller also scored three times.

Palmerton-No. Lehigh

The pitching of Wayde Haydt. along with the hitting of Eric Nothstein, lifted Palmerton to a 12-0 Colonial League victory over rival Northern Lehigh.

Haydt allowed just three hits in five innings, walking two while striking out four. Nothstein delivered three hits, one a triple, scored three runs and knocked in four.

The Blue Bombers (13-7; 11-6) also received a triple and three RBIs from Devyn Rehrig, while Ben Serfass added a double, a run and two RBIs. Zack Silfies and Brock Bollinger each chipped in with a hit and two runs.

The loss dropped the Bulldogs to 6-13 overall, and 4-12 in the league.

Jim Thorpe-Blue Mountain

Kaleb Sophy pitched a two-hit shutout to lead Blue Mountain to an 8-0 Schuylkill League victory over Jim Thorpe.

Sophy walked three and struck out seven for the Eagles, winners of the Division 1 wild card.

The Olympians (9-11; 6-6) received hits from Noah Snisky and Evan Dart.

Derek Holmes had three hits, and Rafe Perich slugged a two-run home run to help Northwestern defeat Catasauqua 7-1, in a game that was suspended from Tuesday.

Perich finished with two hits, while Carter Welch added a hit and two runs.

The Tigers, who ended regular season play with an 18-2 record, also received a hit and three RBIs from Connor Snyder.

Vince Castrine tossed four innings of relief, striking out four, to earn the win.

Mychal Kearns had two hits and an RBI for the Bears, who closed out the regular season with a 13-7 record.

The winners also received a hit and two runs from Nick Ciszak, Dallas Greenzweig and Trevor Knappenberger. Brandon Ratti chipped in with a hit, a run and an RBI.

North Schuylkill capped off an undefeated Schuylkill League season with an 11-6 victory over Lehighton.

The Indians (3-15; 0-11) received two hits, a run and an RBI from both Ethan Lutz and Chris Whiteman, while Randy Bongiorno added a hit, a run and an RBI.

Mahanoy Area captured the Schuylkill League Division 3 title with a 1-0 extra-inning victory over Marian. The teams entered the regular-season finale tied for first place.

Marian’s Lyndsey Reinoehl was the hard-luck loser, also allowing just three hits while striking out nine.

Catasauqua-Northwestern

In the completion of a suspended game from Tuesday, Northwestern rolled past Catasauqua in a Colonial League contest, 17-2.

Morgan Farthing had three hits, three runs and four RBIs for the Tigers (17-3; 14-2), while Ashley Sisco delivered three hits, two of them doubles, three runs and knocked in three.

The winners also received a double, two runs and two RBIs from Natasha Farmer.

Frable allowed no walks and struck out six.

Meara Hanyon had three hits, three runs and knocked in three runs for PV (9-11), while Madison Rosenberg added two hits, a run and three RBIs. Nicole Hoch added a pair of hits and two RBIs, and Grace Vento contributed twohits and two runs.

Miranda Chinchar finished with two hits, one a triple, and two runs, while Jane Kupchinsky added two hits, one a double, and two RBIs. Alexsya Thomas belted a two-run homer and ended with two hits, while Bryn Clifford also collected two hits, two runs and an RBI.

Holy Reedemer-Northwestern

Zach Andreson had five goals and two assists to help Northwestern cruise to a 22-0 victory over Holy Reedemer.

The Tigers (6-8) received goals from 14 different players in the win.

Cole Norman contributed three goals and a helper, while Zach Rosamalia and Kane Flickinger each added two tallies. Jake Dolansky, Taylor Wikert and Zach Frey each recorded a goal and an assist.
