Carbon Alzheimer’s group to meet again in Weissport

Those who would like to learn how to join the effort to end Alzheimer’s disease should plan to attend the next meeting of the Carbon County Alzheimer’s Association.

The program, “Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia” will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday at Jacob’s United Church of Christ, 138 Franklin St., Weissport.

Jeff Elder, who along with his wife, Sharon, serve as co-chairs for the association, said the event will be presented by Weissport Warriors Against Alzheimer’s.

“It’s a special presentation for awareness for what Alzheimer’s is, all the variations Alzheimer’s and dementia have,” Elder said.

“It’s a community event, and we would love to pack the church social hall.”

Elder said the fellowship’s objective is to continue to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s.

“Everybody knows about it, but it’s also very mysterious,” he said. “It touches so many lives.”

Elder said the “The Long Goodbye” 2019 Walk to End Alzheimer’s will be held Sept. 21 at Mauch Chunk Lake Park in Jim Thorpe.

Held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide, the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research.
