Local Roundup: Results from April 30

The Palmerton boys track and field team earned a sweep Tuesday to gain a share of the Colonial League regular season title.

Elsewhere, Northern Lehigh, Palmerton and Weatherly posted softball wins. Pleasant Valley’s girls lacrosse team also gained a victory.

SOFTBALL

Jim Thorpe-No. Lehigh

A seven-run second inning allowed Northern Lehigh to pull away from Jim Thorpe for a 15-1 non-conference victory.

Leadoff hitter Shayanna Williams led the Bulldogs (6-10) with two singles, two runs scored and an RBI, while Lauren Hoffman added a single, three runs and two RBIs. Alley Handwerk and Julia Wannamaker both knocked in three runs, while Alicia Horn, Wannamaker and Halie Krasenics each scored twice.

For the Olympians (2-14), Christy McLean had two hits, while Skyler Searfoss added a triple and run scored.

Lehighton-Palmerton

Kailah Altemose had four hits and knocked in three runs to lead Palmerton to an 11-1 non-league win over Lehighton.

The Blue Bombers (15-2) also received two hits, one a triple, and an RBI from Paige Shupp, while Emily Baumgardt added a pair of hits and two RBIs.

Lexi Merkel allowed just four hits to earn the pitching win.

For the Indians (5-10), Kendra Peterman had a triple and an RBI.

Marian-Mahanoy Area

In the completion of a suspended game from April 12, Mahanoy Area posted a key 12-9 Schuylkill League victory over Marian.

Emily Lawrence hit a three-run homer for Mahanoy.

The Fillies (6-8; 4-5) received a double and three RBIs from Mia Nemeth.

The game was resumed with Mahanoy Area leading 9-8 in the third inning. The win allowed the Golden Bears (8-5; 5-4) to take over the top spot in the Division 3 standings.

Weatherly scored in every inning to come away with a 13-3 non-league victory.

Corra Chincola sparked the Wreckers (6-9) with two singles, two runs and four RBIs, while Kelly Royer contributed two singles and an RBI.

Alexis Colecio also added a single, three runs, and an RBI.

BASEBALL

Dieruff-Tamaqua

Winning pitcher Carlos Rodriguez allowed just three hits to lead Dieruff to a 2-1 non-league win over Tamaqua.

Rodriguez struck out five in outdueling Gavin Richards.

Nick Breiner had a double and an RBI for the Blue Raiders (4-13), while Brayden Knoblauch had a hit and a run.

TRACK AND FIELD

Pen Argyl, Saucon Valley at Palmerton

Both the Palmerton boys and girls teams swept Pen Argyl and Saucon Valley in a Colonial League tri-meet.

The wins by the Blue Bomber boys allowed them to finish the regular season as tri-champions in the league. Palmerton, Bangor and Southern Lehigh all ended with 10-1 records.

Aaron Stasko (100, 200), Jacob Martinez (800, 1600), Chris Fredericks (shot put, javelin) and Cody Waterhouse (long jump, triple jump) all won two events.

In the girls meet, Madison Martinez (100H, 300H), Abigail Everett (shot put, discus) and Sayler Burke (long jump, triple jump) were all multiple winners for Palmerton.

Northwestern split its Colonial League tri-meet at Palisades.

Michael Mazzarro was the Tigers’ only double-winner, taking the discus and javelin events.

Northwestern also received individual firsts from Jakayla Holmes (400), Madeline Consuelos (1600), Alyssa Zack (3200), Sydney Derr (pole vault), Ryan Haas (300H) and Hayden Bobbyn (shot put).

ES South Invitational

The Stroudsburg boys and girls claimed the team titles at the Cavalier Invitational at East Stroudsburg South.

Pleasant Valley’s girls team took fourth, while the PV boys finished fifth.

The Bears’ Alana Porter won the 200 with a time of 27.09. Porter also picked up a third-place finish in the 100. DeNair Drew registered a pair of thirds in the 100 and 300 hurdles.

For the PV boys, Ryan Bonser (400) and Xavier Garmony (110 hurdles) finished second in their respective events. Connor Covart had a third-place showing in the 1600, and Elijah Yepez did the same in the high jump.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Pleasant Vy.-Northampton

Julianna Lopez led Pleasant Valley with five goals in an 18-3 win over Northampton.

Brielle McInaw had four goals for the Bears (11-4), while Alexandra Bush added three. Meghan Hallenback had three assists.

So. Lehigh-Northwestern

Northwestern dropped a 20-2 decision to Southern Lehigh.

Bailey Scheffler and Kate Edgar had the two goals for the Tigers (0-13), while Emilee Schultz added an assist.
