Six people who previously entered guilty pleas to driving under the influence and related charges were sentenced Tuesday in Carbon County court by Judge Steven R. Serfass.

Jason Michael Mika

, 38, of Weissport, was arrested on April 27, 2015, along Third Avenue in Lehighton by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance. He also pleaded to driving under suspension - DUI related.

On the DUI count he was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000 and a year license suspension. On the suspension count he was sentenced to serve 45 to 90 days in jail (but must serve the 90 days), and pay a fine of $1,000.

He was also ordered to render a total of 175 hours of community service.

He also previously pleaded to a retail theft count and was sentenced to serve three to 23 months in prison, and on a charge of persistent disorderly conduct, two to 12 months. All the prison terms run concurrently. He was given total credit for two days on the charges. The retail theft occurred at Walmart in Mahoning Township on Dec. 26, 2016; and the conduct count occurred on Oct. 21, 2018, an arrest by state police at Lehighton following a vehicle stop in which Mika was a passenger.

He will begin the jail term at 9 a.m. on May 6 and serve it on consecutive, two-day periods of Monday to Wednesday.

Barry A. Tindula

, 37, of Palmerton, was arrested on April 16, 2017, by Palmerton police along Route 248. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.

He was sentenced to serve 90 days to 60 months in prison, pay a fine of $1,500, render 100 hours of community service and his license was suspended for 18 months.

He was given credit for six months spent in an inpatient program run by the Salvation Army, and paroled.

Joshua Todd Robert Barlip

, 28, of Lansford, was arrested on March 11, 2018, along State Road by Palmerton police. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance. It was noted police responded to a road rage incident in which Barlip was one part of it.

Serfass sentenced him to serve 90 days to 60 months in prison, a fine of $1,000, one-year license suspension and render a total of 100 hours of community service.

He will begin the jail term at 5 p.m. on May 3 and serve it on consecutive two-day weekends.

James Russell Meckes

, 41, of Weissport, was arrested on June 24, 2017, along Route 443 by Lehighton police. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.

He was sentenced to serve 30 days in prison followed by 59 months in the county’s Intermediate Punishment Program with the first 60 days on electronic monitoring, 18 months license suspension and render 100 hours of community service.

He will begin the jail term at 9 a.m. on May 10.

Jericha Lee Skuntz

, 25, of Hazle Township, previously pleaded to two counts of DUI in two incidents.

Skuntz was arrested on Oct. 19, 2015, by state police at Fern Ridge along Interstate 80 in Kidder Township. The second arrest occurred on Nov. 11, 2015, along Route 209 in Towamensing Township by state police at Lehighton. In both cases, tests revealed the presence of a controlled substance.

On the first count she was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000 and one-year license suspension. On the second count she was sentenced to serve 90 days to 60 months in jail, a fine of $1,500 and an 18-month license suspension. The jail terms run concurrently. She must also render a total of 125 hours of community service. She was given credit for 66 days already served.

Skuntz is currently an inmate in the county prison.

Randy Earl Miller

, 38, of Lehighton, was arrested on Feb. 4, 2018, by Lehighton police along Route 443 at Ninth Street after being involved in a crash. He also had pleaded to accidents involving damage to vehicle or property.

On the DUI count he was sentenced to serve 30 days to six months in jail, a fine of $750, one-year license suspension and render 75 hours of community service. On the accidents count he was placed on probation for a year, consecutive to the DUI charge.

He was given credit for two days already served. He began the jail term immediately.

All defendants must also pay court costs of about $1,000, a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole and follow any recommendation of their drug and alcohol evaluation.
