Local Roundup: Results from April 27

Palmerton and Northwestern both picked up baseball and softball wins on Saturday.

Included in those wins was a no-hitter by the Blue Bomber baseball team.

BASEBALL

Palmerton-Pen Argyl

Palmerton’s Zach Silfies and Eric Nothstein combined on a five-inning no-hitter as the Blue Bombers posted an 11-0 Colonial League win over Pen Argyl.

Silfies tossed three frames, striking out four, to earn the victory while Nothstein finished the gem with two hitless frames.

Ben Serfass collected two hits, scored two runs and knocked in three to pace Palmerton (9-6) . Nothstein contributed two hits and three RBIs, while Tanner Burnett and Blake Either each added a pair of hits and two runs.

Northwestern-Wilson

Carter Welch pitched a three-hit shutout to lift Northwestern to a 10-0 Colonial League victory over Wilson.

Welch struck out seven and walked just one.

Rafe Perich had three hits, one a double, and knocked in two runs to lead the Tigers (14-2). Nathan Goodolf added a single, double, two runs and two RBIs. Nick Henry also chipped in with a hit and two RBIs.

No.Lehigh-Notre Dame GP

Notre Dame’s Nick Vonelli struck out seven and allowed just two hits, leading his team to an 8-0 Colonial League win over Northern Lehigh.

Josh Herman finished with two hits and three RBIs for the winners, while teammate Steven Luke had two hits, one a triple, and scored two runs.

The Bulldogs (3-11) received both of their hits from Caleb Wanamaker.

SOFTBALL

Palmerton-Pen Argyl

Palmerton’s Lexi Merkel struck out 16 batters to lead her team to a 10-3 Colonial League victory over Pen Argyl.

Merkel retired the first nine batters she faced and received plenty of offensive support.

Amanda Lalik had three hits, one a triple, knocked in two runs and scored twice. Yessir Olewine added three hits, a run and an RBI.

The win upped the Bombers record to 13-2.

Northwestern-Wilson

Northwestern jumped out to an early lead and coasted to a 7-3 Colonial League victory over Wilson.

The Tigers, who collected 13 hits, scored four times in the first inning and added three more in the second.

Morgan Farthing had three hits and scored two runs, while Ashley Sisco added a pair of hits and two RBIs. The winners, who improved to 13-3, also received two hits and three RBIs from Olivia Stofflett.

Other key contributors included Anna Akelaitis (two hits, run) and Emily Akelaitis (two hits, two runs, RBI).

Notre Dame grabbed a first-inning lead and pulled away to earn an 8-2 Colonial League victory over Northern Lehigh.

Rebecca Fulmer had two hits, one a solo homer, and knocked in three runs for the winners. Fulmer also scored three times.

For the Bulldogs (5-9), Lauren Hoffman had a single, triple, and scored a run.
