Carbon man gets prison term for DUI, drugs

A Carbon County man, who previously pleaded guilty to drunken driving and drug counts in four pending criminal cases, was sentenced to a county prison term on Monday.

James Arnold McClain, 49, of Summit Hill, was sentenced to serve a total of nine to 60 months in prison on one count of driving under the influence and possession of a controlled substance and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was arrested on the DUI charge on Sept. 24, 2017, by Lehighton police along Route 443.

He was arrested on the drug counts as follows: Sept. 24, 2017, by Lansford police in the 300 block of East Snyder Avenue, charged with paraphernalia count; March 10, Lansford police at Patterson and Leisenring streets, vehicle stop, passenger with paraphernalia; March 22, by Lansford police in the 500 block of East Abbott Street, where officers served a search warrant, possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia. In that case a felony count of possession with intent to deliver was dropped in a plea bargain.

On the DUI charge he was also ordered to pay a fine of $1,500 and his license was suspended for 18 months.

He was also ordered to render a total of 300 hours of community service when paroled, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole.

McClain, who is an inmate in the county prison, was given credit for 102 days already served.
