Slatington woman charged with possession of methamphetamine

A Slatington woman has been charged after she was found to be in possession of methamphetamine.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Sgt. Christopher Ritter of the Palmerton Borough Police Department:

At 8:30 a.m. March 11, Ritter was dispatched to the 200 block of Lehigh Avenue in Palmerton to assist deputies with the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office.

Upon arrival, Ritter was informed by the deputies that they had arrived at the residence to serve a felony arrest warrant on Amy Freed, 33.

They located her in a first floor bedroom.

While taking Freed into custody, deputies searched her purse and found a crystalline substance that appeared to be methamphetamine, and two white waxen baggies of the type commonly used to package heroin, along with a used hypodermic needle.

The crystalline substance was field tested, with a positive result for methamphetamine, and it weighed less than once gram.

Due to safety concerns, the residue in the waxen baggies was not field tested.

Freed faces charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, and is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing May 15 before District Judge William Kissner of Palmerton.
