It’s the Reader’s Turn at Jim Thorpe Area High School

Citing deteriorating trails and dangers to hikers and first responders, the Pennsylvania Game Commission has announced that they are closing the falls trail at Glen Onoko. Is this the right move?

Max Schlenner, Senior“I think it’s a good idea. People without experience are going up there, getting lost, not wearing the proper footwear. They also take chances by getting too close to the edge.”
Colin Jacobs, Senior“I don’t think it’s a good idea. It’s been a tourist attraction for years. The problem is people aren’t dressing properly and not using common sense.”
Sam Hydro, Senior“I don’t think it’s a good idea. It’s taking something away from the people that enjoy it. The low percentage of people that are getting hurt are taking away from the majority that enjoy it. They should just make sure that the people are wearing the right apparel so people don’t get hurt.”
Carter Wolfe, Senior“It’s not a good idea because it’s such a big tourist attraction for the area. And it’s something that helps make Jim Thorpe, Jim Thorpe. It’s a family spot for my family and I.”
Nate Rosahac, Senior“I think it’s a bad ideas to close them. When I was growing up we used to hike it with the family, and closing them would rob future generations of that. Maybe just take more steps to educate people about safety.”
Kelsey Carroll, Senior“I do not think it’s a good idea. The falls and trails at the glen are something that not only locals enjoy, but also the tourists. Taking that away from people would take away part of the experience of Jim Thorpe.”
