Local Roundup: Results from April 18

Marian’s baseball team moved into first place in its division Thursday by defeating Minersville.

Elsewhere, Pleasant Valley’s Dan McEvoy and Weatherly’s Alexis Wilkinson tossed shortened no-hitters, while Tamaqua’s Bryn Clifford pitched a two-hit shutout.

BASEBALL

Minersville-Marian

Marian rallied in the bottom of the sixth to take down Schuylkill League foe Minersville, 2-1.

Matt Doherty had a two-out single, advanced on a passed ball and later scored the eventual winning run on Brandon Cann’s RBI single.

Cann and Quest Wilson both finished with two hits, while Dante Agosti added a hit and an RBI for the Colts (6-3; 4-1).

For the Miners, Dominic Pizzico hit a solo homer.

Williams Valley’s Jesse Engle hit two home runs to lead his team to a 5-1 Schuylkill League win over Panther Valley.

Engle finished the game with three hits and four RBIs.

For the Panthers (6-5l 4-2), Wyatt Zimmerman had three hits, while Brad Buzzard finished with two. Johnny Byers chipped in with a hit and an RBI.

Blue Mountain-Jim Thorpe

Winning pitcher Drew Grace had three hits and knocked in two runs to lead Blue Mountain to a 14-5 Schuylkill League victory over Jim Thorpe.

The Eagles, who jumped out to a big lead with a six-run second inning, also received two hits, three runs and two RBIs from Billy Gerlott.

Zach Searfoss had two hits, one a two-run homer, for the Olympians, while Jake Schwartz and James Lordi also finished with two hits. One of Lordi’s hits was a triple.

The loss dropped Thorpe to 6-6 overall and 3-3 in the league.

Lehighton-North Schuylkill

North Schuylkill used a five-run fourth inning to snap a tie and defeat Lehighton, 9-4, in a Schuylkill League contest.

Max Schally delivered a two-run double during the Spartans’ big frame.

For Lehighton (2-8; 0-5), Mason Barndt had a hit, run and two RBIs. Chris Whiteman added a hit and run scored.

Pleasant Valley’s Dan McEvoy threw a three-inning no-hitter as Pleasant Valley rolled to a 22-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win over Allen.

At the plate, McEvoy had three hits and knocked in four runs for the Bears (8-3). Nick Ciszak contributed two hits, three runs and three RBIs while Brandon Ratti added a hit, two runs and three RBIs.

Matt Burnett also chipped in with two hits and a pair of runs.

Gabby Gerber led the Eagles with two singles, one a double, and three RBIs, while Bryan Russian added three singles.

Kaitlyn Day had the only hit for the Olympians (2-10; 1-6).

Winning pitcher Schuyler Ossman paced the Spartans with two hits, one a triple, and three RBIs.

Alexis Scott and Samantha Gruber hit back-to-back home runs in the fourth inning for the Indians (4-6; 1-5). Gruber finished the contest with two hits.

The Vikings hit three home runs during the three-inning game.

Maddy Bordner had a single, triple and homer for the winners.

Megan Pascoe recorded the only hit for the Panthers (5-5; 2-4).

Bryn Clifford tossed a two-hit shutout to lead Tamaqua to a 13-0 Schuylkill League win over Lourdes.

Clifford walked one and struck out four. She also received plenty of offensive support, as Miranda Chinchar had three hits, two of them doubles, scored two runs and knocked in three, while Jada Schellhammer added two doubles, a run and two RBIs.

The Blue Raiders (7-5; 4-3) also received a triple and three runs from Jen Frederickson, and a home run from Alexsya Thomas.
