Great response for Lehighton Hometown Heroes Banners

Lehighton’s Hometown Heroes Banners were once again in high demand.

Another 260 banners were sold as part of last month’s sale, according to Kevin Long, commander of the Lehighton United Veterans Organization.

“We’re done with our sale as of right now,” Long said. “We appreciate all the support of all the family, friends and loved ones who got a banner for their service member.”

Long said the banners are guaranteed for three years, and at the end of three years, when they fade out or wear, they’ll be given back to the family, and at that time they can put a request in for another one at that time.

“It was another great response,” he said. “And it was really a great endeavor and really a great accomplishment for everybody.”

Long said the banners are to honor Lehighton area men and women, both living and deceased, who have served and continue to serve our country.

“We definitely appreciate all those who came out, and the great pride,” he said. “The community came together and showed their support for their family, friends, and loves ones and all those who served.”

The first two banners were placed in the parking lot of the Legion in August, while the remaining 297 banners were placed along Sgt. Stanley Hoffman Boulevard, as well as First, North, South, Mahoning and Ninth streets.
