Local roundup: Results from April 10

Marian used a quick start to cruise to win over Weatherly in baseball action on Wednesday.

Jim Thorpe and Northwestern both earned baseball and softball victories, while the Pleasant Valley softball team and Panther Valley baseball squad also collected wins.

In tennis action, Palmerton edged Wilson.

BASEBALL

Weatherly-Marian

A huge opening frame sparked Marian to a 15-0 Schuylkill League victory over Weatherly in three innings.

Alex Kubishin led the Colts, who scored 10 runs in the first inning, with a single, double, a walk, three runs scored and three RBIs. Hunter Fristick chipped in with a double and three RBIs. Aaron Mason (single, three runs scored, two RBIs) and Brandon Cann (single, two runs scored, RBI) also contributed to the victory.

James Lordi and Jared Marykwas combined to blank Lehighton 2-0 in a Schuylkill League contest.

Lordi recorded 14 strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings, allowing just two hits to earn the win. Marykwas worked a third of an inning to earn the save.

Marykwas led the Olympians with two singles and a run scored, while Ian Hubbard followed with two singles and an RBI.

Mason Barndt and Zach Crum recorded the Indians’ two hits.

Northwestern-Salisbury

Northwestern rolled to a 11-1 Colonial League victory over Salisbury.

Derek Holmes paced the Tigers with a 4-for-4 performance, which included four singles and two RBIs. Nicholas Henry followed with two singles and three RBIs.

North Schuylkill-Tamaqua

North Schuylkill pounded out a 12-0 shutout win over Tamaqua.

Max Schally was 2-for-2 for the Spartans, with a three-run homer, and scored three runs, Reggie Crawford was 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored, while Jake Green was 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run.

Nick Breiner, Gavin Richards and Sean Lavine all had a pair of hits for the Raiders.

Panther Valley used strong pitching to limit Mahanoy Area to three hits and a shutout in a 13-0 Schuylkill League win.

Josh Robin earned the win on the mound, and also went 2-for-2 with a double and four RBIs for the Panthers. Aaron Miller also added two RBIs.

Jim Thorpe-Lehighton

A six-run opening inning helped Lehighton edge Jim Thorpe 8-6 in Schuylkill League action.

Becky Serfass, Sam Gruber, Arerielle Searfoss and Makayla Nothstein all recorded multiple hits for the Indians. Nothstein also posted a run scored and an RBI.

Kristin Pompa led the Olympians with a 3-for-4 performance, finishing a home run shy of the cycle with three runs scored and an RBI.

Lehighton improves to 4-4 overall (1-3 SL), while Jim Thorpe slips to 2-6 (1-3).

Pleasant Valley-William Allen

Pleasant Valley powered its way to a 13-2 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over William Allen.

Janelle Frable paced the Bears with a double, two singles and three RBIs, while Meara Hanyon added a double, home run, two runs scored and three RBIs.

Cameron Caffrey (single, double, two runs scored) and Grace Vento (two singles, two runs scored) contributed with multiple hits.

Mahanoy Area’s Emily Lawrence fired a no-hitter against Panther Valley in a 12-0 Schuylkill League win.

Lawrence, who fanned 10 batters in five innings and walked four, also had a triple and two singles. CeaLinn McGroarty had a triple and a double, and Meghan Macleary added two hits for the Golden Bears.

Northwestern took down Salisbury 6-2 in a Colonial League contest.

Emily Akelaitis picked up the win for the Tigers, and helped her own cause at the plate, collecting three hits and scoring three runs.

Morgan Farthing collected three hits and knocked in three runs as well.

North Schuylkill overpowered Tamaqua for a 12-3 Schuylkill League victory.

Schuyler Ossman picked up the pitching win for the Lady Spartans, and also went 3-for-3 with two home runs, three runs scored and three RBIs. Megan Sacco was 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs as well.

For the Lady Raiders, Miranda Chinchar was 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a pair of RBIs, while Jen Frederickson was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Palmerton used strong singles play to grab a 3-2 Colonial League win over Wilson.

Nate Andress, Erica Messics and Lucas Christman swept the three matches to help the Bombers secure the victory.
