26th annual Spirit Award Dinner is this Saturday

There will be cotton candy and popcorn, jugglers and fire dancers, all the ingredients commonly associated with a circus.

Instead of a regular awards ceremony, the Greater Northern Lehigh Chamber’s 26th Annual Spirit Award Dinner and Dance will indeed be circus themed.

The event will be held Saturday at the Iron Lakes Country Club, 3625 Shankweiler Road, Allentown. Cocktail hour is at 5 p.m., with the main event at 6 p.m.

Honorees will include Leo Livengood, Shankweiler’s Drive-In and several Lions Club organizations, according to Rachel Greenawalt, manager for the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce.

The theme of the event is Night at the Circus, and all funds raised will go toward the Greater Northern Lehigh Scholarship Funds which benefits Northern Lehigh, Northwestern Lehigh, Parkland, Northampton and LCTI seniors.

Greenawalt said the chamber is humbled to honor Livengood, owner of Livengood Excavators, for all of his hard work and dedication to the local communities and Lehigh Valley as a whole.

Meanwhile, Greenawalt said Shankweiler’s Drive-In Theatre in Orefield — the oldest drive-in in the nation — is celebrating 85 years of business.

Further, Greenawalt said the Lions Clubs continue to give back tremendously to the community, and this year all five Lions Clubs — Slatington, Slatedale-Emerald, Lehigh Township, Lehigh Township Lioness, and Upper Lehigh Lions Clubs — that fall within the Greater Northern footprint will be recognized.

“It’s just to really give back and honor people that have helped not only the chamber, but also the community out for years and make the area better,” Greenawalt said.
