Wilkes-Barre man charged in McAdoo arson

A car fire in McAdoo on March 23 resulted in a Wilkes-Barre man being taken to the Schuylkill County Prison in Pottsville.

The car fire in the unit block of South Kennedy Drive was reported at 4:27 a.m. The vehicle was a black Chevrolet Cavalier. As firefighters were dousing the flames, officers saw a man standing across the street. The man began yelling that he was responsible for the fire. He was identified as Wilmer Basilio, 22.

Basilio said he started the fire “because he wanted to,” using a lighter and some cologne. The vehicle was determined to be a total loss.

Basilio was charged with felony counts of arson-reckless burning and criminal mischief, along with a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct and a summary offense of dangerous burning.

He was arraigned before duty District Magisterial Judge James Ferrier, who set bail at $20,000 straight cash.
