McAdoo police report on traffic stops

McAdoo police released information on two recent traffic stops.

Gregory Shafer, 23, of Drums, was stopped at 10:45 a.m. on Feb. 4 due to a brake light that wasn’t working. He admitted not having a driver’s license and appeared to have been drinking alcohol. His performance on field sobriety tests led officers to ask him to submit to a blood test. He refused.

Shafer was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a suspended license and failure to have the required lights.

Jerline Rodriguez, 22, of Hazleton, was stopped at 8:10 p.m. on Feb. 9 after she made a right turn on red where it is prohibited. Officers noted an odor of marijuana in the vehicle. Rodriguez said she had been around other people who had been smoking, but she hadn’t smoked since 5 a.m.

She was given field sobriety tests and performed poorly. She was taken to the hospital for blood tests, which were positive for THC. She was charged with three counts of driving under the influence of a controlled substance, failure to heed a traffic control device and driving with a suspended registration.
