The ownership group planning to bring MYST, a hibachi/gastropub restaurant, to Jim Thorpe is one step closer to its goal.

Jim Thorpe Borough Council approved a resolution Thursday night giving its blessing to a liquor license transfer requested by JMLS Inc.

Brian Stahl, an attorney for JMLS Inc., said the license would be transferred from an establishment in White Haven to the soon-to-be Japanese restaurant at 34 Susquehanna St., the former location of the Blue Mountain Sports & Wear shop.

“JMLS Inc. is planning on constructing and operating a hibachi restaurant at that location,” Stahl said. “They are in the process of doing renovations now. The owners are very excited about this opportunity.”

According to Stahl, the group operates five other hibachi style restaurants throughout northeast Pennsylvania.

“They have a proven track record and they’re looking to bring a new option to the borough,” Stahl said.

The vote to approve the liquor license transfer resolution was unanimous.

“We wish them the best and it’s going to be another great addition to our beautiful downtown,” Jim Thorpe Councilwoman Edith Lukasevich said.

MYST hopes to be open later this summer.
