PennDOT road projects to begin in Carbon

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Engineering District 5 announced today work is scheduled to begin this week on a $494,944 project to resurface two state roads in Carbon County.

• Broadway/West Broadway in Jim Thorpe Borough will be resurfaced between Route 209 and High Street; and Rockport Road in Lehigh Township will be resurfaced between Lehigh Gorge Drive and the Lehigh Gorge State Park.

• Work also includes the construction of new Americans with Disability Act (ADA) compliant curb ramps on Broadway/West Broadway (where applicable) and new pavement markings on both roads.

Starting Wednesday, the contractor will begin work on the ADA curb ramps on Broadway/West Broadway. Traffic will not be impacted during the ADA ramp work. However, later this spring motorists should expect lane restrictions during the resurfacing phase of this project. Updates will be provided whenever traffic pattern schedules change.

New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co. Inc. of New Enterprise is the general contractor on the project, which is expected to be complete in June. Broadway/West Broadway has an average daily traffic volume of 1,190 vehicles, and Rockport Road has an average daily traffic volume of 112 vehicles.
