It’s bright inside a new Effort business as neon-colored snowmobiles, ATVs, side-by-sides and zero-turn lawn mowers await a grand opening crowd today.

It’s a sharp contrast from black-and-gray checkered floors, black floor mats and gray walls.

“There is no local powersports dealers in the area. I saw a need for it in the Poconos,” said Brandon Azzalina, owner of Azzy Powersports.

As soon as his Realtor showed him the vacant building at the intersection of Route 115 and Timothy Drive across from the Dollar General, he knew it would be a great spot to open the store.

Thousands of cars pass by there every day, he said. The proximity to routes 80, 33 and 209 will be an advantage for clientele.

The store has been a dream of his for quite a while. He has been around racing and motor sports his whole life.

“I’m an avid snowmobiler. Tug Hill in upstate New York is my favorite spot,” he said.

A few months ago, he began to make it all a reality.

“I’ve been working on this business since September. I have spent countless hours preparing and planning for this,” he said.

He traveled to various states, including Minnesota and Georgia, for training and a tour of Arctic Cat’s factory.

He and two employees will sell the Arctic Cat snowmobiles, ATVs and side-by-sides and Big Boy mowers on the salesroom floor. They range in price from $3,000 to $20,000.

If clients want something that is not on the salesroom floor, he can order it through his vendors.

The other employee, a mechanic, will work in the attached garage.

“We will fix any kind of powersports equipment, not just those we sell,” he said.

Azzalina is a 2014 graduate of Pleasant Valley and Monroe Career and Technical Institute. He took four years of welding.

“My welding teacher told me I needed to go into sales,” he said.

This is his second business. He also has Welding for Less LLC, a web-based welding supply business.

The grand opening will occur from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will include T-shirt giveaways, food and beverages. There will be special deals on the powersports equipment.

Azzy Powersports, 504 Timothy Drive in Effort, will be open six days a week: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday; 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday and Friday; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday; and closed on Sunday.
