DA: Fatal shooting by attempted robbery victim was justified

ALLENTOWN (AP) — Authorities say a shooting death following an attempted robbery on an eastern Pennsylvania street has been ruled justified.

Allentown police and the Lehigh County district attorney said a man had finished work and was heading to a friend’s house in Allentown early Saturday when he was accosted by two men who demanded money, sprayed him with some form of pepper spray or mace, and struck him in the face with a pistol.

Authorities said the victim, a licensed gun owner with a permit to carry, fired at his attackers, striking and killing one.

Authorities said the two men and a woman planned to commit a robbery. The Lehigh County district attorney said Monday that victim’s actions were a justifiable use of force. The other two suspects are facing charges.
