A look back: Feb. 9, 2000

Miners Memorial Medical Center, Coaldale, and St. Luke’s Hospital today announced the merger of MMMC into the St. Luke’s Hospital and Health Network.

Technically, the merger is called an “affiliation,” explained John Tracy, chairman of the board at Miners. “Officially, by PA law, the relationship must be called an affiliation. In reality, it is a merger,” he said.

“The relationship we are celebrating here today is truly a win-win-win. Miners wins. St. Luke’s wins, and, most importantly, the community wins,” said Richard A. Anderson, president and CEO of St. Luke’s Hospital and Health Network. “As to what the future holds, it is my belief that the best is yet to come.”
