Tamaqua and Northern Lehigh both posted boys and girls basketball victories on Friday night.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Tamaqua-N. Schuylkill

Tamaqua remained in the hunt for a Schuylkill League wildcard playoff berth with a 61-43 victory over North Schuylkill.

The Raiders (14-5, 8-3) are now tied with Blue Mountain in the battle for second place in Division 1 after the Eagles lost to Pottsville on Friday night. Both teams have three league games left, including a showdown on Thursday at Tamaqua.

The Blue Raiders used a balanced offensive attack to defeat North Schuylkill. Lucas Gregoire led the way with 16 points, Brayden Knoblauch added 14, Devon Zehner had 12, Michael Bonetsky tallied 10 and Derian Stianche scored nine.

Preston Kemery scored a game-high 21 points to help Northern Lehigh earn a 62-50 Colonial League victory over Catasauqua.

Brandon Hess tallied eight of his 19 points in the third quarter as the Bulldogs (13-7; 9-6) used a 21-10 frame to extend a slim one-point halftime lead.

The winners, who stayed alive for a league playoff berth, also got nine points from Zach Moyer.

Pleasant Valley used the middle frames to gain a 72-61 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Stroudsburg.

The Bears, who improved to 2-18, outscored the Mounties by a 38-14 margin the second and third quarters.

Ashton Smith tallied a team-high 17 points for PV, while Andrius Harrison-Gaddist added 17. The Bears also received 14 points from Noah Mitchell.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Jim Thorpe-Panther Vy.

Leila Hurley hit eight three-pointers and tied a career-high with 28 points as Jim Thorpe cruised to a 74-52 Schuylkill League victory over Panther Valley.

Hurley connected on five of her treys in the second quarter as the Olympians (17-0; 11-0) outscored PV by a 27-9 margin.

Skyler Searfoss added 14 points, while Olivia Smelas finished with a double-double — 10 points and 11 rebounds.

The Panthers (6-14; 0-12), who were a perfect 15-of-15 from the foul line, received a team-high 23 points from Erika Dubosky and 20 from Emiline Markovich.

Moravian Acad.-Tamaqua

A big game from Emma Kuczynski helped Tamaqua gain a 63-42 non-league win over Moravian Academy.

Kuczynski scored 23 points, pulled down 12 rebounds, and collect seven steals. She moved into sixth place on the program’s all-time scoring list with 1,280, passing Carla Kemmerer (1,272).

The Blue Raiders (16-3), who rallied from a 16-7 first-quarter deficit, also received 11 points from Bek Hromyak and nine from Jamie Zuber.

Tamaqua won the JV game, 40-26. Serena Jones had 17 points, 15 rebounds and 10 steals for the winners.

Jada Saeger scored a game-high 26 points as Northern Lehigh jumped out to an early lead and cruised to a 58-32 Colonial League victory over Catasauqua.

In addition to Saeger’s big game, the Bulldogs also got nine points from Madison Seier.

Northern Lehigh (8-12, 6-9) led 17-4 after one period as Saeger scored 13 points in the quarter.
