Driver faces charges after Thorpe chase, crash in car stolen in Lansford

A vehicle stolen in Lansford early Monday evening was later spotted in Jim Thorpe and was involved in a chase that ended in a crash and the apprehension of the driver.

Jim Thorpe police reported at 5:30 p.m. an officer observed a vehicle matching the description of one reported stolen in Lansford pull into the parking lot of Gaetano’s Pizza Shop. As the officer approached the vehicle, the driver fled onto West Third Street then onto Center Street. The officer then lost sight of the vehicle.

The officer then checked the area and located the vehicle coming from the Jim Thorpe Market parking lot. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver continued onto several streets before striking a tree in front of 220 North St.

Police identified the driver as Lewis Searfoss, 45, of Lansford and took him into custody. Searfoss was transported to Lehighton hospital for evaluation and later released to the custody of Lansford police. Jim Thorpe police said charges are pending relative to the incidents in their borough.

Contacted this morning, Lansford police said the incident was still being investigated.
