Heavy rains, blocked drains cause flooding on area roadways

Flooding is being reported on roads throughout the region because of heavy rain and drains blocked by ice.

With a layer of frozen ground, the water will have a hard time seeping into the soil. As a result, ponding on roadways and flooding of poor drainage areas will become more widespread.

Lehighton Area School District tweeted this afternoon that buses are running late.

“The district has been notified of several detours that will require buses to take alternate routes. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding.”

Fire departments throughout the region have been called to pump water out of basements.

Rain, moderate to heavy at times, will continue through 4 p.m.
