The Lehighton Downtown Initiative’s third annual Rocktoberfest held Oct. 20-21 raised $3,600 for the PA Breast Cancer Coalition.

Held in the borough’s downtown parks, Rocktoberfest offered attendees two days of bands and acoustic musicians, along with a car show, wine and beer garden, family activities, crafters and food for the cause.

All money raised supports the work of the PBCC for breast cancer survivors, families and Pennsylvania breast cancer researchers.

Every day, 37 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in Pennsylvania. More than 140,000 women are living with the disease in our state.

The PA Breast Cancer Coalition provides programs and services for those women, including free Friends Like Me care packages full of resources and small gifts to help them navigate their diagnosis.

The PBCC hosts a statewide Conference each October in Harrisburg with workshops from the brightest minds in breast cancer. In addition, the coalition awards grants each year to Pennsylvania breast cancer researchers.

“Our goal at the PA Breast Cancer Coalition is to find a cure for breast cancer now … so our daughters won’t have to, and thanks to events like Rocktoberfest, we are moving closer toward that goal,” said PBCC President and Founder Pat Halpin-Murphy. “Breast cancer affects every one of us. It affects our mothers, daughters, sisters, wives, aunts, cousins and friends. We are so very grateful to the Lehighton Downtown Initiative for believing in our cause. The money raised will help us to provide support and hope to Pennsylvania breast cancer survivors and families.”

LDI’s Rocktoberfest event has raised more than $10,000 for the PA Breast Cancer Coalition over the past three years.

Next year’s Rocktoberfest will be held Oct. 19-20.

The PA Breast Cancer Coalition represents, supports and serves breast cancer survivors and their families in Pennsylvania through educational programming, legislative advocacy and breast cancer research grants.
