Local Roundup: Results from Jan. 17

Joe Berezwick earned his 300th career coaching win Thursday as the Lehighton girls used overtime to defeat Panther Valley.

Marian and Tamaqua also picked up wins in girls action, while Palmerton, Northwestern and Pleasant Valley posted wrestling wins.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Lehighton-Panther Valley

Lehighton pulled out a 60-56 Schuylkill League overtime victory over Panther Valley to give head coach Joe Berezwick his 300th career win.

Hailee Miller led the Indians (8-8; 2-6) with 22 points. Alexis Solomon, who scored six of her team’s 12 points in the overtime session, finished with 16.

Erika Dubosky paced the Panthers (6-9; 0-8) with 18 points, while Rachelle Filer added 14. Emiline Markovich also chipped in with 11.

LEHIGHTON

Schuylkill Haven-Marian

Marian rolled to its ninth straight win, defeating Schuylkill Haven by a 55-13 score.

Emma McClafferty scored a game-high 11 points, while Julia Kriesl added 10. The Fillies, who raced to a 28-2 first-quarter lead, also received nine points from Macy Alansky.

Marian improved to 12-2 overall and 6-1 in the league.

Tamaqua-Pine Grove

Emma Kuczynski had a solid all-around game to lead Tamaqua to a 51-37 Schuylkill League victory over Pine Grove.

Kuczynski finished with 17 points, 10 rebounds and seven steals. The Blue Raiders, who trailed after the first quarter, also received 14 points from Jamie Zuber.

Jamie Zuber added 14 points for the Raiders.

Tamaqua improved to 12-2 overall and 7-1 in league play.

In the JV game, Tamaqua posted a 52-35 win. Makenna Kane had 15 points, Serena Jones 13 and Emma Hope 12.

Lourdes dominated Weatherly during an 89-57 Schuylkill League win.

Scott Zoscin led the Wreckers with 16 points, while Antonio Colecio added 14.

The loss dropped Weatherly to 6-8 overall and 2-5 in the league.

Pleasant Valley’s struggling season continued as it dropped a 81-43 loss to Parkland.

Sebastian Pizczatowski led the Bears with 16 points. Noah Mitchell had 10 points, while Ashton Smith added eight.

The Bears, who only trailed by three points at halftime, dropped to 0-14.

The Blue Raider boys dropped a 96-65 decision despite individual wins from Bill Frederick and Alexander Barron.

Brayden Lutz led Lehighton with 11 points as the Indians posted a 49-34 win over Panther Valley.

Brad Hood led the Panthers with 13 points.

8TH GRADE

Panther Valley defeated Lehighton, 34-26.

Brad Hood scored 15 points for the Panthers, while Stephen Hood added six.

Levi Monk and Ron Schmick each scored 10 points for the Indians.

7TH GRADE

Stephen Hood poured in 16 points to lead Panther Valley to a 48-16 win over Lehighton.

Thomas Boyce, Tyler Black and Drew Kokinda each had seven points for the Panthers.
