Carbon woman involved in 5-vehicle crash

A Carbon County woman was one of five involved in a crash on Monday along Route 222 in Allentown, Lehigh County, at 4:54 p.m.

State police at Fogelsville said Heidi S. Mejia Rodriguez, 25, of Allentown, was driving a 2003 Honda Odyessy on Route 222 near the intersection with North Brookside Road.

As she traveled over an overpass, she hit icy spots due to previous inclement weather. She lost control of her vehicle which slid into the off ramp to North Brookside Road in front of Emylee E. Steber, 21, of Jim Thorpe, who was driving a 2014 Volkswagen Tiguan.

The Odyessy hit a concrete barrier along the right shoulder. Steber attempted to stop but was unable to, and her vehicle hit Rodriquez’s. The Tiguan then slid into the middle lane and struck a 2004 Nissan Xterra driven by Walter L. Hitchens, 70, of Reading.

The Xterra was then pushed into the left lane and struck a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt driven by Darrell R. Greth, 66, of Reading, which was stopped on the left shoulder.

The Tiguan continued forward and struck a 2016 Volkswagen Golf driven by Nicole L. Wieder, 26, of Allentown, which was stopped in the left lane of travel.

No one was injured. The Tiguan and Xterra were towed. Rodriquez was cited for driving a vehicle at an unsafe speed.
