Local Roundup: Results from Jan. 5

Marian picked up victories over Lincoln Leadership Academy in both boys and girls basketball on Saturday.

In other results, Jim Thorpe gained a boys win, while its wrestling team claimed the team title at the South Williamsport Tournament.

Other winners included the Northwestern boys and Weatherly girls basketball teams.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Marian-Lincoln LA

Marian pulled out a 66-64 overtime decision over Lincoln Leadership Academy.

Tyler Fritz scored four of his game-high 21 points in the overtime period to help the Colts (6-4) post the non-league victory. Brandon Sabulsky also scored four points in OT and finished with 20.

Dante Agosti added 12 points to the winning cause.

For Lincoln Leadership, Devin Wynder tallied 14 points.

Jim Thorpe held off Fleetwood for a 51-47 non-league victory.

Leading the Olympians (5-6) in scoring was Caiden Hurley with 17 points, while teammate Nate Rosahac added 14.

For the Cougars, Tyler Chavoya finished with a game-high 22 points.

Northwestern had a strong first three frames to build an insurmountable lead, and eventually posted a 69-50 Colonial League victory over Salisbury.

Devin Thomas led the Tigers (5-5) with 20 points, while Deven Bollinger added 13. Sam Yadush and Sam Seyfried both chipped in with eight.

For the Falcons, Tommy Sylvester led the way with 10.

Southern Lehigh proved too tough to beat, as they handed Palmerton a 68-32 Colonial League setback.

For the Spartans, Olivia Snyder’s 22 points was tops, while Ellie Cassell added 17.

Brianna Moore had 14 for the Blue Bombers (5-6).

WRESTLING

S. Williamsport Tournament

Jim Thorpe captured the South Williiamsport Wrestling Tournament team championship. The Olympians finished with 207.5 points to easily win the 10-team tournament. Pleasant Valley finished second with 160.5 points.

The Olympians saw four different athletes take their individual weight class titles as Ethan Mordaunt (220), Derek Hunter (285), Austin Williams (182), and Austin Givens (126) all won titles.

Kendall Herron (195), Jared Newhall (170), Will Schwartz (106), Gabe Heaney (113), and Caleb McDermott (152) all took silver in their weight classes.

Tamaqua in Hamburg Duals

Tamaqua notched two team wins and had several wrestlers turn in strong individual performances at the Hamburg Duals.

The Blue Raiders were able to take wins over Upper Perkiomen (48-27), and Camp Hill (51-24).

Tamaqua’s Nate Wickersham notched five wins, Carson Krell and Bronson Strouse both picked up four wins, while Caleb Sell, Aaron Coccio, Lucas Schickram and Kahlid Holland all grabbed three wins on the day.

Panther Valley in

Anthracite Duals

Panther Valley had a few strong performances as the host team for the Anthracite Duals.

The Panthers had just four healthy wrestlers available, which prevented them from winning any of its five team bouts.

Panther Valley did have two strong individual performances, however, as Sincere Flamer finished 5-0 on the day and Eric Moyer grabbed four wins.
