A Carbon County woman was sentenced to a county prison term recently after previously admitting to a drug-dealing charge and also driving under the influence.

Nancy Belle Whitaker, 49, of Lansford, was sentenced by Judge Steven R. Serfass to serve three to 18 months, less a day, on a charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance. On a charge of DUI she was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, consecutive to the drug charge. She was given credit for 22 days already spent in prison on the charge. She will begin the jail term at 9 a.m. on Jan. 4.

She was arrested on the drug-dealing charge on Nov. 23, 2016, at her residence along Bertsch Street by Lansford police. As part of an ongoing investigation, police served a search warrant on the residence. Various drug paraphernalia and 2.5 grams of crystal methamphetamine were found in the home. There is a co-defendant in the case.

The DUI occurred on March 3, 2017, filed by Lehighton police following a traffic stop along Route 443.

She was also ordered to render a total of 100 hours of community service, enter into an intensive outpatient drug/alcohol treatment program after she is paroled, pay court costs of about $1,000, license suspended for a year and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole.
