Five area girls’ teams picked up wins on Tuesday.

Jim Thorpe, Pleasant Valley, Tamaqua and Weatherly all posted victories to remain undefeated, while Northwestern also triumphed.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Pottsville-Jim Thorpe

Leila Hurley scored 18 points as Jim Thorpe rolled to a 52-28 Schuylkill League Division 1 win over Pottsville.

Skyler Searfoss added 10 points for the Olympians (4-0), while Olivia Smelas nearly recorded a double-double with eight points and 10 boards.

Lexi Plachko’s 12 points led the Tide.

Northwestern used a balanced effort to down Palmerton 55-40 in Colonial League action.

Kailyn Jones led the Tigers (6-1) with 14 points, while Emily Sekerak and Sage Christopher each added 13.

Brianna Moore paced the Bombers (3-2) with 19 points.

Pleasant Valley cruised to a 65-45 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win over East Stroudsburg South.

Madison Rosenberg paced the Bears (5-0), who led 45-18 at halftime, with 13 points. Cameron Caffrey (11) and Riley Wagner (10) also hit double figures.

Tamaqua-Pine Grove

Tamaqua used a big second quarter to earn a 53-35 Schuylkill League Division 1 win over Pine Grove.

Emma Kuczynski tied a career-high with 34 points, and added 17 rebounds and six steals for the Blue Raiders (5-0), who surged ahead with a 22-point second period. Kuczynski now has 969 career points, and moved into 13th place on the girls all-time scoring list.

Tamaqua also won the JV game, 46-29. Serena Jones scored 12 points for the Raiders, while Emma Hope tallied 10.

Weatherly-Nativity

Weatherly remained unbeaten and handed Nativity its first loss with a 56-42 triumph in Schuylkill League Division 3 play.

Emily Zoscin scored a game-high 27 points for the Wreckers (4-0, 1-0). Lindsey Hoffman hit five of Weatherly’s 11 three-pointers and added 17 points.

Kaitlyn Zemantauski scored 14 points for the Golden Girls (3-1, 0-1).

Nativity won the JV game, 35-16.
