Palmerton police looking for witnesses to pedestrian strike

Palmerton police are looking for any people who may have witnessed the pedestrian getting struck by a vehicle along Delaware Avenue Wednesday morning.

“We are attempting to locate any possible witnesses to the pedestrian accident yesterday morning,” police said on Facebook. “The accident occurred just before 7 a.m. on a weekday in heavy rush hour traffic, yet thus far only ONE witness has stepped forward. Anyone who was passing through the 200 block of Delaware Avenue just before 7 a.m. is urged to contact us as soon as possible.”

An 81-year-old Palmerton man is in critical condition after he was struck by a vehicle on Delaware Avenue in the borough Wednesday morning.

Clair Fatzinger suffered serious injuries and was treated at the scene by Palmerton Ambulance personnel and paramedics from Lehighton ambulance.

Fatzinger was crossing Delaware Avenue near Spillane’s Fit in the 200 block when he was struck by an eastbound car.

The driver of the car remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said.

Fatzinger was flown to St. Luke’s Hospital in Bethlehem.

Palmerton police were assisted by state police crash reconstruction and forensic service units. Palmerton, Aquashicola and Slatington fire departments also assisted.
