A Carbon County man pleaded guilty on Monday to a drug dealing charge and was immediately sentenced to a state prison term.

Michael T. Halulko, 30, of Nesquehoning, pleaded to one count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, methamphetamine.

He was arrested on Jan. 7 by Mahoning Township police in the parking lot of the Walmart store. Police were investigating a suspicious vehicle in the area.

Matika sentenced Halulko to serve one to two years in a state correctional institution.

Halulko is currently an inmate in the county prison serving another sentence which runs to January. He is also facing a probation violation proceeding in Lehigh County. Matika ruled his sentence run concurrent with the Carbon term.

His court-appointed attorney, Matthew J. Mottola, of the public defender’s office, said his client has struggled with an addiction problem for some time.

Halulko was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, zero tolerance for drug or alcohol use, supply a DNA sample, render 50 hours of community service when paroled and pay court costs of about $1,000.
