State police at Lehighton said someone used a 13-year-old Kunkletown boy’s name to call in threats to the Pleasant Valley High School.

The call prompted an extremal threat lockdown just after 9 a.m. Thursday.

State police said the threat was just an elaborate hoax.

Superintendent David Piperato said there was a call to the anonymous tip line as well as the district office this morning threatening violence at the high school.

“We immediately contacted the Pennsylvania state police and placed all schools on secure,” he said. “An exterior threat lockdown was put in place at the high school prohibiting anyone from leaving or entering the building.”

Police said the call occurred at 8:55 a.m.

The lockdown was cleared just before 11 a.m.

Parents reported on social media that they had received text messages from their children saying that while the school was secured they were still permitted to attend classes and move about the building.

State police are still investigating.

Piperato added that Wednesday a middle school student was threatened by an online game player and that was reported to the district as well.
