Snowstorm blamed for crashes

State police at Lehighton reported on several crashes investigated by troopers during last Thursday’s snowstorm.

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 2:30 p.m. along Summer Mountain Road in East Penn Township, Carbon County. Kassidy J. Hengst, 19, of Northampton, was driving a 2007 Toyota Camry southbound on the snow-covered road when she attempted to slow down. She lost control of her vehicle which went over the double yellow line into the oncoming lane and the back into the southbound lane where it rolled onto its roof. Hengst was not injured.

• At 3:26 p.m. a hit-and-run crash was reported along Route 209 in Lower Towamensing Township, Carbon County. A vehicle left the road and struck a utility pole along the berm, causing major damage to the pole. The driver then left the scene.

• Another hit-and-run was reported at 4:37 p.m. along Route 534 in Polk Township, Monroe County. A vehicle was eastbound near the intersection with Beltzville Drive, when the driver lost control. The vehicle went onto the berm and struck a house. The vehicle’s front windshield shattered onto the front porch of the home. The driver then fled the scene.

In both hit and runs there was no description of the vehicles involved.

• A two-vehicle crash was reported at 3:49 p.m. along Route 534 in Polk Township, near Queens Way. Troopers said Namir J. Harris, 26, of Philadelphia, was eastbound driving a 2003 Lexus RX300 and coming down a hill during the snowstorm when he lost control of the vehicle. The Lexus then struck a 2017 Nissan Sentra, which was disabled in the westbound lane and operated by Roseann Dillon, 51, of Albrightsville. After impact the Sentra spun around blocking the westbound lane.

No one was injured.
