Details of the crash of a sanitation truck last week have been released by state police at Lehighton.

The crash occurred at 11:38 a.m. on Thursday along Route 248 at Bowmanstown.

Troopers said a faulty suspension system was the blame.

Troopers said the truck, a 2001 International Harvester, was operated eastbound by Jerry L. Strohl, 36, of Lehighton, in the right hand lane when the rear axle assembly dislodged from the vehicle.

Strohl lost control and the truck fish-tailed in a clockwise manner and struck a section of guide rail along the right shoulder.

After impact the truck was redirected in an easterly direction then continued to roll over onto the driver’s side. The truck then slid a short distance before coming to rest facing east blocking both lanes of travel.

Strohl was taken by Palmerton EMS unit to the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, for medical evaluation. The two eastbound lanes were shut down for the crash investigation. The truck was towed from the scene.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by volunteers from the Parryville Fire Company.

Strohl was cited for unlawful activities, troopers said.
