Stolen work truck chopped up in Palmerton

A truck stolen from a construction site in Schuylkill County was found in a garage in Palmerton being disassembled resulting in the arrest of two Carbon County residents.

Palmerton police have arrested Thomas Schaub, 30, of Held Street, Lehighton, and Curtis Margle, 28, of Lehigh Avenue, Palmerton.

The investigation into the theft began on Tuesday when the fleet manager for Burgette Excavation, of Avoca, Luzerne County, noticed that one of the company’s construction trucks were missing from a site along Interstate 81 in Mahanoy Township, Schuylkill County. He accessed the GPS unit on the vehicle and discovered it was showing a current location in Palmerton. The manager drove to the Palmerton area and located the truck in a garage behind Margle’s residence. He notified Palmerton police, who went to the garage.

When police entered the garage they discovered the missing truck being disassembled and also a quantity of illegal substances on site. Margle and Schaub were then taken into custody.

Schaub has been charged with two counts of receiving stolen property and one count each of unlawful possession controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Margle has been charged with two counts of receiving stolen property and one count each of possession with intent to manufacture or deliver on controlled substance, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal mischief.

Schaub and Margle were placed in the county prison in Nesquehoning and are to be arraigned this morning before a district judge.

Police said the investigation into the incident is continuing.

State police at Frackville are handling the investigation of the truck being taken from the construction site.
