Local Sports Roundup: Results from Oct. 9

A pair of goals from Carissa Fallon sparked the Palmerton girls soccer team to a win over Lehighton on Tuesday.

GIRLS SOCCER

Palmerton-Lehighton

Two second-half goals lifted Palmerton to a 3-2 non-league win over Lehighton.

Carrisa Fallon led the Bombers’ attack with two second-half goals. Lauren Rehrig also scored for Palmerton, who rallied from a 2-0 deficit.

Ashley Marchessault and Amya Quinones posted the Indian goals.

Lehighton keeper Alyssa Myers finished with 28 saves, while Bombers’ goalie Kyla Brown finished with 18 saves.

In the JV contest, Lehighton posted a 4-1 victory.

BOYS SOCCER

Jim Thorpe-No. Lehigh

A quick start sparked Jim Thorpe to a 5-1 non-league win over Northern Lehigh.

Thor Muth and Leandro Ramirez both finished with two goals apiece for the Olympians, who scored four times in the first half. Aiden Clements also found the back of the net for Thorpe.

Jack Morris finished with two assists, while Ryder Wallace, Chris Condly and Sean Bevalaqua also recorded assists.

Josh Sollars started the game’s scoring with the Bulldogs lone goal.

Kingsley Ehling (seven saves) and TJ Smith (six saves) split time between the Olympians’ posts, while the Bulldogs’ keeper Wesley Delands finished with 14 saves.

Tamaqua-Pottsville

Mason Dolinsky’s goal was all Tamaqua needed to score a 1-0 Schuylkill League victory over Pottsville.

The Blue Raiders’ Jacob Rudy and Derian Stianche both were credited with an assist.

Tamaqua keeper Luke Verta finished with eight saves to preserve the shutout win.

The Tide’s Ben Polley also grabbed eight saves.

Tamaqua improves to 13-2-1 overall (8-2-1 SL).

VOLLEYBALL

Lourdes-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe defeated Lourdes in a Schuylkill League Division 2 match, 25-4, 25-9, 25-10.

Kelsey Carroll led the Olympians with 15 assists and four kills, while Brandy Montemuro finished with 13 kills and five assists.

Abbey McGinley (eight digs) and Autumn Snyder (five kills, four aces) also played well for Jim Thorpe.

North Schuylkill-Lehighton

Lehighton knocked off North Schuylkill for a 25-14, 25-11, 25-14 Schuylkill League victory.

Lillian Brown led the Indians’ attack with 21 digs and three aces, while Emily Miller followed with 10 kills, six digs and three aces.

Alyssa Frey (25 assists), Samantha Banning (12 digs, four aces), and Sydney Vincent (seven digs, four kills) also contributed in the win.

Lehighton improves to 11-8 overall (5-8 SL).

Pine Grove-Panther Valley

Panther Valley posted a 25-23, 25-17, 25-21 win over Pine Grove in Schuylkill League Division 1 action.

Erika Dubosky had seven kills, 12 digs and three aces for the Panthers. Jenna Dubosky, who also recorded her 500th-career service point, tallied six kills and 10 assists, while Sarah Zabroski dished out 17 assists, and Olivia Dacey tallied 12 digs and seven kills for PV. Rachelle Filer had five kills, three blocks, and two aces.

Panther Valley won the JV match, 2-0

Marian-Pottsville

Pottsville rolled to 25-15, 29-27, 25-12 Schuylkill League win over Marian.

Tatianna Zeleniak led the Fillies with 18 assists, while Macie Mazaluski added 15 digs.

Antonina Zeleniak (14 digs), Kate Spillman (eight digs) and Lacey Blasko (eight kills) all contributed in the setback.

Marian slips to 6-8 overall (6-6 SL), while Pottsville improves to 14-2 (11-1 SL).

Saucon Vy.-Northwestern

Saucon Valley topped Northwestern 25-14, 25-17, 25-14 for a Colonial League victory.

Tiger senior Ashley Bennicoff led the Tigers’ attack with 10 digs and eight assists, while Megan Corke finished with 28 digs.

Northwestern’s Erin Vance (six digs, two aces), Shante Duminie (three kills) and Jovina Fager (two kills, two digs) shined on Senior Night.

Palmerton-Southern Lehigh

Southern Lehigh swept Palmerton 3-0 in Colonial League action.

Alyssa Lyon led the Spartans with 12 assists, four aces, three kills and two digs, while Cortney Kylish finished with five kills, three aces and two digs.

Southern Lehigh blanked Northern Lehigh 2-0 in Colonial League action.

The Bulldogs fell to 10-6 overall (9-6 CL), while Southern Lehigh improved to 11-5 (10-4 CL).

Northwestern, Palmerton, Bangor, Pen Argyl, Wilson at Northern Lehigh

The Northwestern girls ran away with a sweep in a Colonial League meet at Northern Lehigh.

Northern Lehigh’s girls and Northwestern’s boys went 2-1 on the day.

Palmerton went 0-3, but Jacob Martinez gained a first-place finish.

The Bulldogs’ Reagan Pender placed first in the girls’ meet.

Preston Kemery scored a Bulldogs’ best sixth place, while RJ Zack followed with a Tigers’ best in seventh.

Alyssa Zack earned a Tigers’ best third place, while Cailey Sagastume posted a Bombers’ best in 44th.
