Northern Lehigh school director resigns

Applicants have until next month to fill a vacant seat on the Northern Lehigh School Board.

The school board on Monday approved the resignation of Director David Roberts, who is moving out of the district. Directors Kristie Wilk and Robert Keegan Jr. were absent.

Superintendent Matthew J. Link expressed his gratitude toward Roberts, and told him he and his family will be missed.

“You definitely had a positive impact,” Link said. “Thank you for your service to the district.”

A system operator at Met-Ed, Roberts said after the meeting that he resigned from the board due to a job promotion.

“This area has always been home to me,” Roberts said. “I care greatly for the students and the people.”

The district posted the vacancy on its website.

Residents who are interested must submit their application to the district on or before noon Nov. 8.

Letters of application should be sent to: Kristie Wilk, Board Secretary, Northern Lehigh School District, 1201 Shadow Oaks Lane, Slatington, PA 18080.

No telephone applications will be accepted. Letters can be mailed or delivered in person. Personal data, or a resume which will assist the directors in the interviews, should be included.

Roberts, of Washington Township, was appointed to the school board in April.

He was the only candidate to apply for the seat even after the board extended the deadline.

Roberts took over for former Director Debra Bower, who resigned from the board in March due to health reasons.

The person selected to fill the vacancy shall serve until December 2019. To serve beyond then, it will be necessary to run in the municipal election.

At that point, the seat will be only a two-year seat to complete the end of Bower’s term, which expires in 2021.

Bower was appointed to the board in March 2016.

She replaced former Director Natalie Green, who resigned from her seat in February 2016.

Green was originally appointed to the board in June 2010.
