Thief abandons stolen TV after it doesn’t fit in car

An alleged thief abandoned a stolen TV in the parking lot of a local Kmart Thursday after it did not fit in his car, police said.

Around 1:15 p.m. Thursday, Lehigh Township Police were called to the Kmart store at 400 N. Best Ave. (Route 145), according to a news release.

Police said the suspect walked out of the store carrying a large flat screen television and several clothing items without paying for them.

The store’s loss prevention officer followed the suspect outside and saw him attempt to put the TV into a vehicle.

The suspect left the TV in the parking lot after he was unable to fit it inside the car.

A bystander recorded the incident.

Police said the suspect is possibly a Hispanic or middle-eastern male with short black curly hair, a black goatee and mustache, who was seen wearing black sunglasses, a gray hooded sweatshirt and dark-colored jeans.

He fled north on Route 145 toward Palmerton in the vehicle, which was described as a blue Hyundai Elantra.

Lehigh Township Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the department at 610-760-8800.
