State police have filed drug dealing charges against a Monroe County man after they were called to his home for repeated 911 hang-up calls.

Police said Joshua James Cooper, 23, of Effort, had a bag of marijuana in plain view while speaking to a police officer who responded to the home.

The trooper said he arrived at the home on Rocky Mountain Drive at 2 a.m. following the 911 hang-ups, and observed a man, identified as Cooper, standing on the porch with bags of luggage. Cooper told them he had been kicked out of the house by his girlfriend after a dispute.

While they talked, the trooper noticed a vacuum sealed bag containing marijuana sticking out of an open duffel bag, in plain view. The trooper took the bag, and asked Cooper what was in it. Cooper responded, “That’s my weed, bro.”

Police said they eventually discovered 160 small plastic baggies containing marijuana, with prices labeled on them. The total weight of the marijuana was 12 ounces.

Cooper was charged via summons. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Oct. 26.
