Lehighton Bike Night marks 20th anniversary

Bigger and better.

That’s the theme of this year’s Lehighton Bike Night, which will mark its 20th anniversary by returning to the scene of last year’s stomping grounds.

This year’s event will once again be held at Riders Resort in Franklin Township, except this time, it will be extended over three days, from Friday through Sunday.

Held rain or shine, the event will include food, retail and nonprofit vendors, as well as entertainment provided by 3PH, Wicked Beaver, Another Day Dawns, Cherry Bombs and DJ Fast Eddie.

For those interested in staying the weekend, Riders Resort offers tent and RV sites, as well as rental units.

Much like last year, the event will raise money for Valor Clinic Foundation, according to Kayla Poole, event co-coordinator.

“We’re always going to be very supportive of the Valor Clinic,” Poole said. “We’re very passionate about what they stand for as a clinic.”

In addition, Poole said proceeds from the event’s Chinese auction will be donated to the group Bikers Against Cop Killers.

“We’re really excited to be supporting the Bikers Against Cop Killers,” she said.

The event kicks off at 5 p.m. Friday with the Chinese auction, food, vendors and live entertainment.

Saturday will feature a 9 a.m. start time with a made-to-order breakfast, run sign-ups from 10 a.m. to noon, food and vendors, and live entertainment from 1-8 p.m.

On Sunday, there will again be breakfast, along with the announcement of the winners of the Chinese auction.

Poole expressed gratitude toward several people in particular whom she said have played a pivotal role in the event reaching the milestone.

“I’d like to thank Ed Finney for his past dedication to the event; I actually grew up with the event, it’s my 20th year, I’m really excited about it,” she said. “And, also Ty (Poole) and his persistent dedication to the event; because of his passion it kept Lehighton on the map, and our local businesses know that they can count on the event.”

Kayla said she’s excited that Riders is the home for the event, and that they’re able to provide overnight accommodations.

“It’s just nice that people have the option to come here, stay here and support our local area,” she said. “We’re just looking forward to having people come out and support our nonprofits.”

The event was held at the same locale last year, though not until after township officials approved an agreement with the motorcycle enthusiast campground that required the owners of Riders Resort to provide security, portable toilets and to enforce a curfew.

In 2016, the event was held at the Mahoning Drive-In and raised $2,700 for Valor.

That came after it was hosted by the Franklin Township Fire Company in 2015.

And in 2014, it was held at the Grove in Lehighton, as well as the surrounding areas of Seventh, Eighth, Iron and Alum streets.

Before that, the event had been held in the borough’s lower and upper park each of the previous 15 years.
