Lansford woman in retail theft also had needles and fentanyl

A Lansford woman faces multiple charges after she was caught with drugs after stealing from a store.

Veronica L. Vogel, 21, of East Abbott Street, was charged by Nesquehoning police for an incident at the Dollar General on Sept. 4.

According to police, officers were dispatched to the store on the east end of town for a reported theft of merchandise.

Officers learned that Vogel had fled into the woods prior to their arrival after the store manager confronted her and asked to check the contents of her purse.

A man that was with Vogel identified her as the person taking items. Vogel was found coming out of the woods a few blocks away on East Railroad Street and stopped by police. At that time, she said her name was Cassandra.

She was identified by the store manager as Vogel and then admitted to lying about her name and taking $59.54 worth of merchandise without paying for it.

Police then searched her purse and found two needles and five packets of fentanyl. She admitted doing meth and heroin the night before.

She was transported to the county prison on a probation detainer.

Vogel faces charges of retail theft, giving a false identity to law enforcement, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
